Power of a Pact, Legend of Crystal Cove
In Legend of Crystal Cove, The Island Gang learns about strength in numbers and the power that is had when a group of people stick together and stand up for each other ... no matter what. The Island Gang is made up of six kids with a variety of gifts and talents. Even Tyler, who is autistic contributes to the team. His humor often has the kids in stitches, and the value of his memory cannot be underestimated. While many of his recollections are trivial, he will come through in a pinch with vital pieces of information.
When these kids form their "gang" they enter into a pact to support each other and to be true to the team ... no matter what. Throughout life each of us has been, and will be involved in situations where being true, and keeping a confidence is vital. In addition, working hard for the overall good of the team, even when it seems like others on the team are either unwilling or incapable of "pulling their weight" causing you to do more than your perceived share, is an invaluable lesson to learn. This lesson generally begins in high school, continues through college, and never ends.
There is strength in making a pact and being true. As we consider this principle, it is important to realize that there are forces for good and evil all around us. When one is true to a good and worthy cause they will ultimately meet with success. Pacts formed and entered into by those with dishonest or unworthy objectives will not stand.
When they unintentionally end up at the Sedgwick the kids witness something that compromises their safety. Mr. Grisham and Agent Larsen witness The Island Gang huddle up and enter into a pact of secrecy. To the kids, the secret they agree to keep appears to be beneficial to them alone. Suspicious activity in Crystal Cove, kidnapping at the All Saints Center, and late night encounter at Dead Man's put the credibility of their pact in question. But ultimately they learn that their being true to each other kept others safe and led forces for good one step closer to quelling forces for evil.
